Every year the Council awards community grants for projects that demonstrate a humanities approach in the presentation, interpretation and analysis of topics that are of general interest or special relevance to the people of Guam. Examples of projects supported by the Council grant program include interpretive exhibits, documentary video productions, public forums or discussion group series, festivals and tours, and community-based workshops. GHC offers three main categories of grants: mini grants for short-range, low-cost projects; media grants for projects with an electronic component; and regular grants for all other kinds of projects. The Council offers a grant-writing workshop to assist interested organizations in putting together a successful grant proposal. Grant proposals must demonstrate the humanities as central to the project, with emphasis on fostering an understanding of history, literature, ethics, culture, etc.
Grant monies derived from the National Endowment for the Humanities fund the community grants program. Support ranges from $5,000-$20,000 annually.
Any nonprofit group or organization operating in Guam is eligible to apply for a grant. An organization need not be incorporated or tax-exempt. All organizations are strongly encouraged to contact the Guam Humanities Council prior to applying for a grant.
